Profile
Small, locally owned Alma Mexicana serves a wide variety of tacos, burritos, enchiladas, ceviches, and more! In Winston-Salem’s Innovation Quarter, where the restaurant is situated, a stroll around Bailey Park, followed by dinner and beverages on the fantastic patio, makes for the ideal evening with friends and family. Houston, Texas native Claire Calvin grew raised eating tacos and guacamole. She is a self-taught cook and has been in the food industry since 2010, when she founded Dinners on the Porch, a company that delivers dinners to customers’ homes. In 2014, she opened The Porch Kitchen & Cantina. Its sister restaurant, Alma Mexicana, opened its doors in 2018.
Alma Mexicana’s menu is primarily influenced by Mexican products, techniques, and flavors with a contemporary twist because Alma Mexicana means Mexican Soul. Although it is not a traditional Mexican restaurant, Claire wanted to respect the splendor of Mexican traditions, culture, and values in everything they do. The restaurant also serves a wide range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Aside from ginger ale and tea, you can try non-alcoholic cocktails like the Pineapple Cucumber Mule. This drink is made with pineapple, cucumber, freshly squeezed lime, honey, and ginger beer. Meanwhile, the Honey Ginger Limonada has lemon, ginger, and honey.
