Profile
Maurice and Caren Ochola founded The Palace International. The two Kenyan nationals moved to the US to attend universities, where they connected through a friend. They chose Durham, North Carolina, as their new home and eventually opened The Palace in 1989. Through the 1990s, The Palace gained notoriety for serving outstanding African cuisine and serving as a hub for varied populations and a world-beat music scene.
Moses and Suzanna Ochola, Caren and Maurice’s two children, also take part in The Palace’s daily operations today. The family-run restaurant focuses on traditional East African food and African adaptations of international dishes. Palace International’s menu comprises appetizers, entrees, and even vegan selections. A fantastic Nairobian punch is offered at The Palace International. This signature drink is made with a cool mixture of orange, lemon, pineapple, passionfruit, and a tiny bit of banana, and is ideal on a hot day. The non-alcoholic drink options also include Kenyan Chai Latte and Kenyan Black Tea.
The Palace International provides an extraordinary eating and social experience through food, music, and culture. The venue is available to be rented for private events and gatherings, that’s why Sundays are dedicated to such special occasions. With a distinctive catering service, let The Palace International make your occasion tasty and memorable!
