Profile
The phrase “all work and no play makes Johnny a dull boy,” which Jack Nicholson repeatedly typed on a typewriter in the film The Shining, is referenced in the name of Dullboy. The history of Dullboy Bar surely adds to its attraction, but the cuisine and drink are truly outstanding. The drinks, many of which are named after literary heroines, all appeared destined for the best-seller list, and the small snacks are as inventive as they are delicious. Dullboy Bar is anything but monotonous. The Jersey City venue is humming with activity, especially after being voted one of the best in the country by a national publication. At Dullboy, literary themes are prevalent. It is clear from the stark white brick wall fully covered with colorful books and the simple, white brick wall decorated with old typewriters.
In Downtown Jersey City, people frequently go to Dullboy for cocktails and bar food before or after supper. The proprietors of The Garret’s tiny cocktail bar serve excellent drinks with interesting ingredients. Meet a friend at happy hour and drink while you share tater tots topped with crispy duck fat, a poached egg, and luscious shredded duck. They have a wide selection of alcoholic drinks as well as non-alcoholic ones for non-drinkers. Try their house mocktail that’s made from fresh pineapple, ginger, honey, lemon, and bubbles.
