Profile
Yellowbelly offers a tropical (and extremely instagrammable) haven to escape the bustle, with a drink menu that’s like a love letter to rum enthusiasts and a menu equally dedicated to bold foodies and less daring diners. The master mixologist behind Retreat Gastropub, Tim Wiggins, adores rum. In fact, he’s so taken with the spirit that he and Retreat co-owner Travis Howard decided to create an entire restaurant around it as they were getting ready to launch a new concept.
Despite not being a Hawaiian restaurant in the traditional sense, Yellowbelly draws inspiration from the islands for its seafood-centric cooking, which includes tasty dishes like spam-and-crab fried rice, deviled crab fritters with passion fruit mustard, and incredibly fresh tuna poke. Wiggins and Howard were anxious to stay away from the tacky grass skirts and porcelain barware typical of the tiki bars in the 1960s and 1970s. They wanted to pay homage to the custom while also modernizing the cocktails. Their contemporary sea-and-spirits destination Yellowbelly succeeds admirably.
Yellowbelly’s cocktail bar serves non-alcoholic drinks. These include the Faux-Jito made with Giffard N/A apertivo, strawberry, mint, lime, and soda. You can also try the Pina Co-Nada that’s consists of pineapple, coconut, lime, and nutmeg.
