Profile
At the Shinola Hotel in Detroit, the Evening Bar is an interpretation of a welcoming, traditional hotel bar. Gachot Studios designed the space, which is subtly hidden behind the hotel’s foyer, to create a cozy hideaway. Fine furniture arranged for comfort and closeness mixes low-slung seats and soft lighting. The features of the place form a perfect balance with a wide selection of comforting food and refreshing drinks they serve.
Evening Bar offer specific cocktails such as multifaceted ones made with citrus, highballs that consist of juices and carbonated beverages, and non-alcoholic or low ABV choices. For sober patrons (or those who are trying to be one), you can try The Herbalist, which is made with vegetal non-alcoholic spirits, verjus blanc, juniper, cucumber, and lemon bitters. There’s also the Moons of Saturn that’s created using combinations of passion fruit, lemon, pecan, allspice, and marshmallow.
In order to provide a seasonal cocktail menu that emphasizes artisanal distilleries, organic fruit and vegetable extracts, and a scholarly approach to classic recipes, chef and owner Andrew Carmellini recruits local bartenders. Along with Carmellini’s menu of small meals that reflect the market-driven principles of his award-winning urban cooking approach, the menu offers imaginative, multifaceted cocktails in shaken, stirred, and session forms.
