Profile
Friends and Family is a lively and cheerful white-colored bar with wooden banquets, a grey bartop, rose-colored tables, and purple neon lighting on an open-air back patio with a red spray-painted mural visible through floor-to-ceiling windows. The food menu is ideal for savory snacking, from herb oil confit baby trumpet mushrooms to a well-liked grilled cheese with onion jam. The staff sets the tone for an unusually accepting atmosphere for everyone who enters by contributing the earnings from a “daily affirmation” shot to gender-affirming surgical initiatives each month. Friends and Family supports various fundraising efforts, like the People’s Breakfast Oak, Audre Lorde Project, and Black Earth Farms.
The bar, which is proudly owned by a queer woman, opens its doors in April 2020. It may have first become well-known for the numerous bathroom selfies that customers would snap while dressed in fiery clothes, either by themselves or, true to the bar’s name, with friends and family.
On the drinks menu, you’ll find inventive concoctions like the Between the Lines and the For Rei. The house Mezcal Margarita is the centerpiece of Friends and Family’s cocktail menu, which features a small but excellent dozen original concoctions. They also have a booze-free balsamic spritz for non-alcoholic drinkers.
