Profile
Detroit’s Midtown is home to the experimental artisan cocktail bar Castalia. Each of their drinks is coupled with a fragrance from their sister business, Sfumato, emphasizing the harmony between flavor and aroma. This sister company of Sfumato Fragrances, Castalia, is located inside a Victorian mansion. Along with the smell itself, Castalia offers drinks based on Sfumato’s all-natural fragrances. In a private area created for communication, it can be possible to look for the connection between the varying fields. Castalia has been featured in a number of publications, including The Wall Street Journal, Hour Detroit Magazine, and Detroit Metro Times.
Castalia is a rising trend in bars that serve perfumed cocktails. It is named after a fountain from Greek mythology where artists and poets would go to drink its waters and find inspiration. Lead Head Glass, a company that creates terrariums, has also created some unusual custom fixtures for the space designed to resemble the molecules of alcohol, glass, and water used to manufacture perfumes and cocktails. Speaking of cocktails, they have alcohol-free choices on their menu. The No Turning Back, which pairs with the Epiphany scent, is made with lemongrass, lemon, chamomile, lavender, barley, grains of paradise, orris, and gentian. Choose your drink, then choose your scent!
