Profile
On a heated 1100-square-foot roof terrace in the Shaw district of Washington, D.C., El Techo, run by owner Louie Hankins, welcomes Washington to its tropical vacation-transporting decor. El Techo offers handcrafted cocktails, tapas, and meals with a Latin flair and a lot of holiday spirit. The venue’s enclosed, heated tropical haven, which the Washington Magazine dubbed “The Adult Treehouse,” whisks visitors away from the city to a location where “Good Vibes Only” are the rules to live by. When you ascend a metal staircase toward the sound of loud club music, you’ll know you’ve arrived at the restaurant. The rafters are open to the sky on fine days thanks to movable roof panels, where glowing rattan lanterns and trailing wisteria blooms hang. Fake (and genuine) vegetation and vibrant murals are all over the walls.
The hip rooftop and bar of El Techo and sibling restaurant Rito Loco provide private party menus and will work with clients to design a unique celebration. The drinks menu features a wide variety of cocktails, beers, wine, and coffee. Pineapple, mango, and hibiscus zero-proof cocktails are all dealer’s choices. Meanwhile, alcohol-free healthy juices are also available, and you can choose between Jingle Beets or a Sweet Black Coconut Detox Shot.
