Profile
Since he can remember, Charly Pierre has wanted to be a chef. Before choosing to start his own business with co-founder Minerva Chereches, he worked at a number of renowned restaurants in and around Boston. The St. Roch Market’s Fritai stand was a fantastic place to begin. They started preparing food influenced by Charly’s Haitian heritage while incorporating some creative twists to honor the locals, ingredients, and flavors of New Orleans.
Fritai is now one of St. Roch Market’s most prosperous shops; it has organized fundraising events for Haiti and won multiple awards, including Zagat’s 30 Under 30, Eater National Young Guns, as well as numerous television appearances, including Charly’s victory on Food Network’s Chopped. With a focus on his past and the New Orleans residents that helped him become who he is today, Chef Charly is continually constructing and enhancing the vibrant picture of the city.
Aside from delectable food, Fritai serves a bunch of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. The N/A menu features the Spicy Ginger Lemonade, made with lemon, ginger syrup, and Scotch Bonnet Pepper Water. Goslings Ginger Beer, Carrot-Lime Juice, and Hibiscus Limeade are also available. Fritai also sells scratch-made sauces and condiments and custom-made shirts for its loyal customers.Â
